Welcome To IndDEC British Center of Clinical Excellence

  • Does the course meet the GDC requirements?

Yes. The course postgraduate certificate program meets the GDC's requirements for training standards in implant dentistry and has also been accredited by the BAID (UK). The course certificate program is designed entirely around the GDC regulations. After completion of the course and attainment of the certificate you will be able to place implants in your own practice safe in the knowledge that you have satisfied the GDC regulations. We will also help you to start your career pathway in implant dentistry and provide post-course mentoring.
  • What are the entry requirements?

You will need to have a degree in dental surgery. If you are going to take part in any patient treatment you must have full GDC/ DCI Registration and appropriate indemnity cover.
  • Why should I choose this course?

This course has been rigorously assessed by the BAID (UK), following which this postgraduate diploma course received BAID (UK) accreditation. The course strictly follows the GDC approved syllabus and all of the GDC's requirements for training in dental Implantology.
  • What is required for certification?

To receive the 'Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology' you will need to have completed the theoretical and practical aspects of the course. Theory is provided by way of lectures and seminars. An end-of-course MCQ assessment must be passed. In order to satisfy the GDC regulations you will have completed 5 competent clinical cases. You have a choice over how you complete your 5 clinical cases. These 5 cases can be completed during your time on the course by bringing your patients to the Surgical Skills Study Days, by bringing patients to the IndDEC training centre in Delhi after your course cohort has finished* or by treating your patients under the supervision of an approved local mentor nearer your practice (from the IndDEC/ Bio Horizon Mentor Network)**.
  • Does the course supply patients for us to treat?

The GDC make it absolutely clear that dentists training in dental implantology must demonstrate competence in the full spectrum of dental implant treatment - namely the patient assessment, the treatment planning of the case, the surgery, the prosthetics and the long term maintenance plan. If the course just provided patients for surgery this would not be acceptable to the GDC. For this reason the only way that the full spectrum of treatment can be demonstrated throughout the whole case within each individual patient, is with your own patients from the start to the end of the treatment plan.
  • How many times do I need to bring my patients to the training centre if I choose that option for my 5 cases?

You carry out the assessment in your own practice. You then complete a Case Assessment form and send this in to the course. Your case supervisor will then treament plan the case with you. You bring the patient to the training centre for the surgery. You can, however, choose to carry out the prosthetics stages in your own practice if you prefer. Thus you may only need to bring your patient to the training centre for one single visit.
  • I am worried that I may not be able to recruit patients for the course.

You have no time limit to recruit patients for the certificate requirements. If you are able to bring patients to your Surgical Skills Study Days the patient can take advantage of heavily reduced fees, which can save them over £1,000’s from the normal price charged (ask for patient fee rates). If you are not able to recruit patients you may still bring them to the training centre (IndDEC , Centre of Clinical Excellence in Delhi) for an unlimited time after your course has finished* or you may use an approved local mentor from the IndDEC/ Bio Horizon Mentor Network**.
  • What if I live too far from IndDEC to bring patients for the course requirements?

The 5 competent clinical cases that are required for certification, which are needed to satisfy the GDC/ BAID regulations, can be done with a local mentor, closer to your practice, from the IndDEC Mentor Network after the completion of your year**.
  • What are the course's Aims & Objectives?

Our aim is to take GDPs, with no previous implant experience being necessary, and provide training in excess of the GDC requirements to enable these practitioners to safely and confidently provide straight forward implant treatment in their own practices and to satisfy the legal requirements of the GDC. Post course mentoring and support will always be available to every certificate holder. The mentoring is free of charge for the first 12 months after completion of the Year Course.
  • Does the course count as Verifiable CPD?

Yes. The Year Course provides 120 credits/ hours of Fully Verifiable CPD for GDC Lifelong Learning purposes.
  • What if I can not make some of the course dates?

If you can not make a date, due to illness, holidays etc, you can either attend an alternative Study Day date during the year or attend the same module on the following year's course.
  • Is the course full time or part time?

Delegates have to attend 6 lecture/hands on sessions comprising 5 days full time every 45 days. This is backed up by self study with continuous assessments consisting of written assignments after each session.

  • I need to travel a long way to the Study Days. Where can I stay?

Accommodation is available near the IndDEC House, the Centre at AnandVihar in Delhi, which is the location of the Theory Study Days. There are also hotels situated 5 minutes away from IndDEC House. We can help to arrange accommodation for you. We can also arrange pickups from Delhi Airport and Delhi Railway Station.
  • Will I get one-on-one training?

Yes. The provision of one-to-one surgical training is an essential and central component of the Implantology Year Course. One-to-One training can also be provided outside of the Surgical Skills Study Days on an individual basis for any delegate and at no further cost to the delegate.
  • Would it not be better to learn with a number of different systems rather than just the one?

The course director, who has experienced many systems, believes that it if difficult enough as it is to learn implant dentistry without having to learn all of the numerous, and often complex, differences between one system and the next as well. Its better not to stick to one system.
  • How can I train my nurses?

IndDEC provides courses for dental nurses. Can I spread the course fees over few months ? Yes. A deposit of £ 1000 or equivalent in INR secures your place on the Implantology Year Course. Rest is then paid in 2 equal instalments over the next three months. This totals Rs 3,95,000 or equivalent in GBP for the full Implantology Year Course. Course fees are subject to VAT.
  • Does my patient pay reduced surgical fees to be treated on the course?

Absolutely. We recognized that participants may need to offer an incentive to encourage their patients to have implants placed on the course. Patients can save hundreds of pounds by paying greatly reduced surgery fees to the training centre, if operated on a Surgical Skills Study Day. The fee options can be accessed by speaking to the manager.
  • Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes. On enrolment you will have the opportunity to inform us of any dietary requirements.
  • When I gain the Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Implantology what will I be able to do?

Upon completion of the certificate you will have been trained to a standard and level that will enable you to confidently plan and provide straight forward implant treatment on your own patients in your own practice in accordance with the GDC regulations for implantology in the UK. You will have the treatment planning skills to enable you to identify advanced and potentially complex cases. For getting MSc certification you can apply for progression to Warwick University, UK or opt for a much sort option going the fellowship route.
  • I already do some implant treatment but need to satisfy the new GDC requirements. Is this course for me?

Absolutely! Many of our delegates have previous experience of implantology, some for many years. This course will allow you to update your knowledge and satisfy the new GDC regulations which apply to experienced implamtologists as well as beginners.
